Rape Has A Lasting Effect On A Victim s Daily Life Essay

Kaylin Riley Mrs. Henderson English 1102 December 5, 2016 Rape Today Rape cases across the world are rapidly rising. Today, rape is more socially acceptable than in previous times. â€Å"Every 109 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. And every eight minutes, that victim is a child. Meanwhile, only six out of every one thousand perpetrators will end up in prison† (Statistics). Rape has a lasting impact on a victim s daily life. Rape is defined as any sexual act performed by inserting any object into any body part without the consent of the other person. The behavior of some people in our society is appalling. â€Å"Most rapists do not need to deploy physical force to get their victims to submit to them. Assailants ignore the victims tears and pleas to stop, coercing and pinning down their victims to achieve penetration† (Anderson, Michelle J.). To prevent these acts from occurring, before preforming sexual acts both partners must grant consent. There are three legal ways to acquire consent: freely given consent, affirmative conse nt, and capacity to consent. In order for a person to freely give consent, they must not feel threatened or harmed with violence of sexual acts before consent is agreed upon. Affirmative consent are words spoken from both individuals, surely stating they are coinciding with the acts that are soon to be performed. Capacity to consent can be expressed through a number of different elements.
